STARKVILLE, Miss. - Less than a week after long time head coach Dan Mullen left to become the head coach of the Florida Gators, Mississippi State has tabbed Penn State Offensive Coordinator Joe Moorhead as the next head football coach.

Former ESPN writer Brett McMurphy first reported Moorhead's hire as the 33rd head football coach in program history.

Moorhead was the Offensive Coordinator for the Nittany Lions for the last two seasons, orchestrating huge numbers for the PSU offense. In Moorhead’s first season, PSU averaged 37.6 points and 432.6 yards per game, won the Big Ten championship and just missed out on the College Football Playoff. This season, the Nittany Lions are averaging 453.3 yards and 41.6 points per game.

Before arriving in Happy Valley, Moorhead was the head football coach at Fordham, leading the Rams to a 38-13 stretch in four seasons, along with three straight trips to the FCS playoffs.
