Mississippi faith-based group reaching out to Houston

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The relief organization, Eight Days of Hope, based in Tupelo, has scheduled rebuilding efforts for southeast Houston in March.

Hurricane Harvey caused massive flooding and damage there in August. Estimates make it the second-worst natural disaster the U.S. has experienced, behind Hurricane Katrina.

Eight Days of Hope says it will bring thousands of volunteers from across the country to participate in two 8-day projects. Meridian residents will be part of that.

"We try to reach people that either didn't have insurance or didn't have the right insurance," said volunteer Chris Short of Meridian. "Usually those that don't have any other options is who we try to go serve."

Chris and Mary Short will join many others Mar. 10-24, 2018, in Houston.

Eight Days of Hope is a non-profit, faith-based group that has helped rebuild or restore over 1900 homes since 2005. Click the attached link to find how you may be involved.
