Monday, July 17 Morning Forecast Discussion

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Happy Monday! Waking up this morning we are seeing some patchy fog with light winds and out-the-door temperatures in the 70s region wide. Our muggy factor we are feeling this morning will last throughout our Monday. Expect a good mix of sun and clouds this afternoon with highs warming into the upper 80s to lower 90s region wide with heat index values feeling like the upper 90s to lower 100s. Isolated showers and storms are again possible through the afternoon and early evening thanks to the heat and humidity in place. Southeast winds will become calm overnight as our rain chances diminish thanks to the loss of the heating of the day. Lows will drop into the middle to lower 70s region wide with warm and muggy conditions lasting.

Rain chances will finally become more pop-up in nature as we move through mid to late week. The ridge of high pressure that has be warming central parts of the United States will finally push into the southeast. This in turn will help us heat up quite a bit as we move into the latter part of the week. High by Wednesday will be in the middle to upper 90s and that trend will last into the start of the weekend. Factor in the humidity and we could see heat index values reach the middle to upper 100s. If we see this, we could be talking about heat advisory criteria across the region. Lows will remain in the middle 70s region wide.

With the heat and humidity, along with sunny skies, we will need to use extreme caution when going out and about. It would not take much for someone to get heat cramps, exhaustion or even a stroke. Remember to keep an eye out on our children, elderly and even pets. This stretch of hot weather will be the hottest we have seen all summer long and we could see more of this hot weather as we progress through the month of July.
