Meridian, Miss. (WTOK) - It was an unlikely scene as a group of bikers showed us a softer side when they delivered stuffed animals to a law enforcement agency.
Motorcycle riders from Chunky River Harley Davidson linked up at Mississippi Highway Patrol July 15 with a large number of teddy bears for the first "Teddy Bear Roll” ride. The bikers donated the bears so that officers can give the bears to kids who officers encounter in bad situations.
One rider told Newscenter 11 how the group hopes kids will feel safer and that the sharing helps improve negative views about law enforcement officers.
“It’s the relations that the highway patrol has to have with kids. They already have the watch out for bad policemen and they don’t want that type of persona. We decided to collect teddy bears and to hopefully it can put a smile on a child's face," said rider Eddy Chaney.
More than 50 riders and their passengers gave the fuzzy toys to MHP SGT Andy West. The bikers donated all different types of bears as a way to represent different children. There will be another special ride coming up to raise money for Batson Children's Hospital.
