MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Business leaders from across Meridian and Lauderdale County were learning more about the future of Bonita Lakes Mall and Crossings.

“Our mall is one of the largest assets that we have in this city and it is the draw and is the magnet for a lot of people in this region,” said Mayor of Meridian Percy Bland.

The mall was purchased on May 12th by investment firm RockStep Capital, who worked with 16 local investors to buy the mall, which is a good distance from other major retail cities.

“It is a very isolated community and it is a very healthy opportunity for us to purchase a major shopping center,” said Andy Weiner, President of RockStep Capital.

After owning the mall for less than four months, RockStep is aggressively looking at upgrading the mall by adding new signage, tenants, and improving facilities.

“We want to upgrade and work with Regal Theaters to upgrade the cinema, we want to make enhancements on security and it is a very safe property, and we have made a lot of enhancements since we bought the property,” explained Weiner.

As RockStep begins looking at local and national retailers for the mall, they say the revitalization in Downtown plays a positive role for those businesses wanting to locate in Meridian.

“We are big believers that downtown, the revitalization and the health of downtown is critical to the success of Bonita Lakes Mall and Crossings,” said Weiner.

As for the mall property itself, leaders with RockStep explain that with the communities help the mall will continue to be a hub for retail for years to come.

“Please be patient, supportive, positive, and to come out and shop the mall go to the movies and the restaurants,” said Weiner.
