MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Dr. Amy Carter, the Superintendent of the Meridian Public School District, received a special award Wednesday.

She was recognized by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the E-S-G-R, for the support that the school district gives to the military and veterans.

“She’s allowed our members to come into the school and work with our, with the students of the Meridian Public School District as mentors.” says Nina Trotter, a Senior Master Sergeant, who nominated Dr. Carter for this award.

This award is a huge achievement for Dr. Carter and the school district because it recognizes the work school officials have done to promote respect for the military in the students.

“What we do as it relates to participating in Veteran’s Day Programs, just support of our military, it’s what we want our kids to reverence and respect.” says Dr. Carter.

Members of the E-S-G-R believe it is important to recognize employers because they a vital piece of support for the National Guard.

“The reason why this award’s so important to ESGR is because our service members actually go on, take time out of their day to nominate an employer and we get their words on why they’re nominated.” says Cara Divelbliss, the Program Support Specialist for the ESGR, “but not only is it an honor for her to receive, it’s an honor for us to give it to her because of the things that, that she has done.” added Walter Patton, a volunteer for the ESGR.
