Temple Theater gets help with fundraising efforts

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The Temple Theater in Meridian is getting a New York organization's help with raising money to replace their stolen organ pipes.

The theater's manager says someone stole organ pipes from their storage building last year, thinking they would be worth something when melted down. That burglary set the Temple Theater back several thousand dollars in the pipework needed. They started a GoFundMe account to raise money, and that's when the New York Theatre Organ Society contacted them and said they would match any donation made.

"If somebody donates $100, they'll donate $100. We're relaunching our GoFundMe effort to try to restimulate it with the fact that we have people in New York City that care enough about the Temple Theater and the organ in Meridian that they're willing to reach out all the way across the country," said manager of the Temple Theater, Roger Smith.
