Temple Theatre benefit concert

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A country music legend is coming back home to Meridian this weekend to help raise funds for an historic theatre. Moe Bandy is headlining a concert Saturday night at the Temple Theatre. Funds raised will help meet immediate needs at the facility, which is managed by volunteers. Supporters of the effort feel strongly that preserving the theatre is important .

"We love the Temple Theatre and it's the best sounding room in the country," says Jacky Jack White, who is a songwriter from Sumter County, Alabama.

"Every town doesn't have something like the Temple Theatre," says Kemper County songwriter, Britt Gully.

"Not to mention the great artists who have been on that stage like Merle Haggard," says Meridian songwriter Scott McQuaig.

"Elvis performed in the ballroom back there" says White. "Kenny Rogers and Tony Bennett did too. So many people have performed there over the years."

Saturday's concert will start at 7. Tickets range from $10 to $20.
Aside from Moe Bandy, Britt Gully, Scott McQuaig and Jacky Jack White will perform together during the concert. The country-gospel band Davis County is also set to perform.
