MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A pair of local students were named semifinalists for a national scholarship program.

Andrew Lund and Nazm Rahat, both seniors at Lamar School, were recognized at a school assembly Wednesday morning. The two are now semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. They explain a lot of hard worked paid off when it came to applying for this scholarship.

“A lot of it was just in the classroom in general. I felt pretty prepped for the test thanks to Lamar and the curriculum, along with paying attention in class and I think that helped me more than anything else.” explained Rahat.

To be considered for this scholarship program, which makes up only 1% of high school seniors in the nation, both students had to score high on the P-SAT. Both Rahat and Lund give this advice to others working hard in school.

“Just work hard and keep your eyes on the goal,” said Lund. “Make good choices and don’t give up on your goal.”

The next step for both students is trying to become finalists. They will have to take the SAT and submit a written essay that showcases their involvement in and out of school.
