NESHOBA COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The United Way of East Mississippi kicked off this year's campaign in Neshoba County Wednesday. The Force Is in You will help raise money for impact programs and several agencies across four counties. The agency says 99 percent of the donations stay in east Mississippi.
"We want people to be involved. We want to get them the opportunity to be involved and to get their employees involved and to support the agencies that are making our community better," said Marie Partridge, campaign coordinator.
United Way is asking business leaders to help spread awareness throughout its four counties: Lauderdale, Kemper, Clarke and Neshoba. Each dollar raised by United Way helps fund impact programs like stuff the bus and imagination library.
"Those are impact programs and everything about them directly impacts the community in which evolve," said Partridge.
But United Way also helps over 20 agencies in east Mississippi with the money donated.
"There are other agencies like Christian Women's Job Corps, 4-H, Boys and Girls Club," said Partridge. "Those kinds of things are located in all of the counties and all of them are funded through United Way."
Agencies are encouraged to submit grant applications to get help from United Way.
"We really believe in supporting the youth of our county and building the community from the ground up," Partridge said.
United Way also helps areas across the nation in their time of need. The non-profit teamed up with the East Mississippi Community Foundation to donate funds to Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims.
