MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Visitors were able to enjoy some soul food Thursday night while also learning about how food impacts our way of life.
A fish fry fundraiser was put on at the Water Ways Exhibit in the Soule Steam Works Museum. Guest speaker Dr. Brinda Willis spoke to a crowd about the emotional and physical aspects of soul food and the way it relates to history and culture. Willis says events like this help keep the past alive.
"To preserve the history so that younger people will understand and know how things are made and where things come from that we take for granted,” says Dr. Willis.
There will be more special events involving the water works exhibit:
Keeping Our Waters Beautiful will be on Thursday, August 16.
Evening Steam-Up of Engines & Closing Reception will be on Thursday, August 23.
A special closing event will be Saturday, August 25.
