Softball tournament to benefit Special Olympics

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - A Responder Softball Tournament this weekend at Northeast Softball Complex will benefit Region 5 Special Olympics.

Games begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Admission is $5.00.

There will also be concessions available and Torch Run t-shirts will be sold.

Region 5 consists of Lauderdale, Kemper, Clarke and Newton counties.
Services are provided for about 475 athletes, ranging in age from 5 to senior adults.

The funds will go toward funding local Special Olympics events, food and travel for state events and needed equipment.

Special Olympians participate in equestrian, softball, soccer, bocce, horseshoes, bowling, track & field, basketball, volleyball and golf.

Each year, 20-40 athletes compete in three state events.
