Most of the Choctaw Artists you meet during the annual Choctaw Indian Fair have been practicing their skills for decades. Many were taught by their older family members and are now trying to continue the tradition.

It takes dedication to continue these traditions. Laura Soloman is the only person making a certain type of hand-crafted pottery, with modern conveniences making pottery simply a decorative item.

Soloman said she believes most young people have lost interest in the craft.

Down at the Willis family booth, Barbara Willis and her niece, Kelly Denson, make clothing and bead work. Barbara's mother urged her to pass down the family tradition.

The fair arts and crafts tent would not be complete without the beautiful handmade baskets. The basket makers spend several weeks on each basket, a skill they also learned from their families.
