After almost sixty years in existence, the Choctaw Indian Fair is still deeply rooted in tradition, which dates back to even before the fair started. One of those is the traditional tribal dance, which is now growing in popularity.

From the young to the young at heart, all can take part in tribal dance. That's just one of the things that organizers say that make this ancient Choctaw tradition so important.

With the dances ranging from those signifying friendship to war and weddings, and others offering thanks and praise, traditional dance is once again growing in popularity especially among the young.

"We started with three dance groups and now we have 18 or so dance groups," said Thallis Lewis, Choctaw cultural coordinator. "I think the dancing will be going for a while, because our grandparents started it."

"I like it because it's my culture. I could do it in my sleep," said tribal member, Tuskahoma Tubby.

The dance sessions will take place daily throughout the fair. Each lasts 45 minutes, with a 15 minute break between most performances.
