One of Meridian's biggest Michael Jackson fans says he's been asked already about doing a tribute show to the international superstar.
Barry Long is a Michael Jackson impersonator and even competed on the ABC Television Show "The Next Best Thing."
As a fan, Long said he's just as shocked about Jackson's death as anyone.
"I was a fan since I was a pup, since I was a baby. I was a fan, and I took his music to heart," said Long, "and I was numb."
He said the feeling around town is similar.
"Everyone at one point was a fan. You could see it in their eyes and in their faces," Long said. "Whether it was the moon walk that did it, or that one song that he came out with that everyone liked, or the Thriller zombie dance, everybody at one point liked Michael Jackson."
Long said he's like to do a tribute, but he can't do it by himself. If you're willing to help, you can get in touch with him at 601-480-9963 or through e-mail at blong1983@gmail.com.
"I'll always remember him as a musical icon. I'll put him right there in the class with Elvis Presley and The Beatles," said Long. "He's right there with them. I hope that they will remember him for his music and let his legacy live on through the sound of music."
