The Poplar Springs Elementary School nature trail is open again. It had been closed the last three years due to damage from Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina.

Volunteers have been busy since this summer cleaning up storm damage and restoring the trail.

"We participate in Let's Go Walkin' Mississippi right now, where the kids will walk anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes every day," said Laura Gidden, past president of Poplar Springs PTA. "Their classrooms will bring them out and this will be an excellent place for them to walk."

A grant from the Mississippi Forestry Commission and local donations helped re-open the trail. The trail will be utilized by students but is also open to all the community.
