The Memorial Day holiday typically kicks off the summer recreation season.
And outdoor activities bring with them the danger of West Nile virus.
West Nile virus is already circulating in some states, with human cases reported in Mississippi, Arizona, and Tennessee.
Officials say people involved in outdoor activities need to protect themselves by using repellent, limit exposed skin, and avoid the outdoors when mosquitoes are most active.
The state Department of Health has reported at least two human cases of West Nile virus, one in Madison County in central Mississippi and the other in Lincoln County.
