United Blood Services in Meridian has issued an urgent appeal for O negative blood donors.

O negative is used for trauma patients who need blood right away, when their blood type is unknown.

UBS says it has no O negative at all on its shelves as of Thursday.

United blood services said 62 units are needed immediately for patient needs and to restock the inventory at area hospitals.

United Blood Services is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
