Health officials are reporting a third death in Mississippi from the West Nile virus.
Department of Health officials say the death occurred in Leflore County. The victim was not identified.
Health officials are also reporting two new cases of West Nile virus, bringing the total number of state cases in 2008 to 86 with three deaths.
The new cases of the mosquito-transmitted virus were in Jones and Madison counties.
The state health department conducts statewide mosquito testing with its most intensive surveillance during the peak mosquito reproduction months of July, August and September.
