The swine flu nasal spray vaccine arriving in Mississippi this week will be distributed to about 500 health care providers, clinics, pharmacies and hospitals.
State Epidemiologist Mary Currier said 10,000 doses of the spray have been ordered. The spray is expected to arrive Tuesday and can be used by anyone aged 2 to 49 and in good health. It's not recommended for some high risk groups, including pregnant women and people with asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
The state Department of Health has been conducting a media campaign to raise awareness about the need to get vaccinations for the H1N1 influenza. But Liz Sharlot, spokeswoman of the state Department of Health, said the spray hasn't been very popular in the state in the past.
