Meridian Speech and Hearing Center is offering free hearing tests on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The service comes at an appropriate time. May is Better Speech and hearing Month.
"It's for everyone, age 6 years and up, who suspect that they may have a hearing problem or someone they know, their spouse, their father or mother, may have problems with hearing," said audiologist Judy Hammack.
Hammack says, generally, if somebody thinks you have a problem hearing, then you owe it to yourself to be tested.
"It's a disorder that's not readily noticeable until you start to try to communicate with someone," Hammack said.
Hammack says older people with untreated hearing problems may become more reclusive as a result, and people who are still working tend to earn less money than others, because of the problem.
The free screening will be available Friday from 8 till noon at Meridian Speech and Hearing Center, 2203 Highway 39 North, in Eastgate Center.
