Another Mississippi resident has died from swine flu. The state Department of Health reports 22 deaths related to H1N1 so far this year.
Health officials say the latest death was a female child in DeSoto County in the northwestern part of the state.
The flu season began Aug. 29, 2009, and since then there have been four deaths in Jones County; two each in Jackson, Tate and Washington counties; and one each in Alcorn, Covington, DeSoto, Hancock, Hinds, Marion, Pearl River, Pike, Simpson, Stone, Tippah and Webster counties.
Symptoms of swine flu in humans are similar to those of seasonal flu, with fever, respiratory symptoms and body aches.
According to the Health Department, many of the swine flu deaths nationwide were among people with preexisting health conditions.
