The Centers for Disease Control will be in Neshoba County on Wednesday to investigate an outbreak of whooping cough there.

Several dozen cases of the condition have been discovered in the area over the last few weeks.

State health officials asked for federal assistance to respond to it.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious illness that can be deadly in very young children.
