USDA Food and Nutrition Service Southeast Regional Administrator Don Arnette will be among the speakers Thursday at the Mississippi Farmers Market in Jackson.

The event, sponsored by the state Department of Human Services and the state Department of Agriculture and Commerce, highlights the Electronic Benefits Transfer Farmers Market Program.

Since April 1, recipients in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program have been able to purchase food items from select vendors at the Farmers Market using their EBT card.

Officials want to raise awareness about the program.
