Anderson Partners with William Carey University

Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center now has a partnership with William Carey University's College of Osteopathic Medicine.

It allows third-year medical students to complete their clinical rotations at Anderson, starting in August.

Anderson's CEO Ray Humphreys, says Mississippi has the lowest number of physicians per capita and having them train here may convince them to stay and help meet the primary care needs in Mississippi.

"Anderson has involvement for many different types of educational programs. Nursing programs. Radiology programs. And training students for their careers in those particular areas," said Humphreys. "But this is the first time, aside from just some individual clinical rotations for the University Medical Center that some of our doctors have done in the past, this is the first formal affiliation with a medical school to train physicians."

When the program begins, medical students will be involved in family medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and psychiatry for a span of one to two months for each area.
