A recent study of breast cancer patients at the Anderson Cancer Center in Meridian found it has one of the highest survival rates in the nation.
The study revealed that Anderson is in the top four percent of all cancer treatment centers for five-year survival rates.
Anderson officials say this is good news for this area.
"Every major cancer center in the country is being compared in this pool," said Dr. Scott Anderson. "And to come out in the top four percent, is pretty amazing."
"All of the medical oncologists in our group are from Mississippi," said Dr. John Halbrook. "We're native Mississippians. We were trained here. We're paying back in a way, showing our appreciation to the people of Mississippi. We feel obligated to the people of Mississippi. "
The study also found that the five-year survival rate for patients with stage three breast cancer was 72 percent, well above the 57 percent national survival rate.
