Dupree Talks about Diabetes

Rush Hospital hosted another in its series of 'Lunch & Learn' seminars, this time highlighting diabetes.

One of the area's most famous residents living with that disease is Marcus Dupree.

The former college and pro-football player shared his personal management of his Type 2 diabetes.

Dupree was diagnosed about 18 months ago. He says diabetics must be diligent in treating their condition.

"Being an athlete, you know, playing ball and competing, you always have to stay on top of your game. And that's what my message is, stay on top of your game with this diabetic stuff," Dupree said. "If you don't, it'll be like a thief in the night. It'll steal you blind and break your heart."

Type 2 diabetes is more common in older people. Type 1 diabetes develops most often in children but can occur at any age.

It's believed that many Mississippians have diabetes, but haven't been diagnosed.
