Justin Sollie has battled Crohn's disease all his life. His brother also now suffers from the condition. And their mother, Lisa Sollie, is taking up the fight to overcome it.

Justin underwent surgery Thursday at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He recently graduated from Meridian Community College, but has dealt with the problems and pain the disease creates since he was six years old.

"Just before the beginning of his first grade year he started running fever," said Lisa Sollie. "He had diarrhea that wouldn't stop. He spent a week in the hospital here. He dropped to 36 pounds, as a first grader."

Justin was eventually diagnosed with the disease that attacks the digestive system. He has gone through multiple surgeries.

Because of the areas typically attacked by Crohn's, the large intestines, Lisa says not many people speak about their battles.

"It's not talked about because it is a digestive disease. There's a lot of embarrassing things about it," she said.

But when Lisa's youngest son, Jeremy was also diagnosed with Crohn's recently, she decided to join forces with people like Pearl Jam lead guitarist, Mike McCready, who also suffers from Crohn's, and speak out about the disease.

Sollie, along with hundreds of others are asking you to join the Take Steps and Be Heard for Crohn's and Colitis Walk that will take place in Madison, Miss., June 25.

"It will be like a two or three mile casual stroll in Madison, but the main idea is to bring the spotlight to this disease," Sollie said.

You may also donate money to research through the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.
