Men are being encouraged to get prostate cancer screenings that will be offered free of charge Saturday in Livingston.
The event is being co-sponsored by the Sumter County Health Department. Organizers say screenings have helped to save lives.
"One out of six men will be detected with prostate cancer and one out of 36 will die," said Sumter County commissioner, Marcus Campbell. "So, it's so important to find out early. Forty-years-old might be too late, especially if you have a family history of it. If it's hereditary, you need to get in early and get checked out."
Appointments are not required. The free screenings will be held Saturday, Apr. 13, from 10 a.m. until
2 p.m. at the Sumter County Health Department in Livingston.
