WTOK News Director John Johnson is getting ready to run his fourth marathon to benefit the Anderson Regional Cancer Center Patient Benevolence Fund.
However this year, the race location has changed and John has picked up some friends to run along with him. He'll be joined by WTOK's digital sales director, Angie Barker, Newscenter 11's Nick Adam and myself.
The run will be in New Orleans Feb. 13, just five weeks away.
"It is nice to have company when you run," said John.
"This is my second marathon, but it is my first one working with the Anderson Cancer Center and the benevolence fund, which is an honor for me, because I appreciate this effort," said Nick. "And the money goes to a unique cause with a great need."
We are all running for different reasons and we have different faces in our minds when we are running. And when it's tough, for me, it's my grandfather who had cancer. He passed away over a year ago. He died of cancer and had his treatment in Meridian, so I'm thinking of him when I'm running, and it's tough.
"I've been running for myself for the last 12 years and this year I'm joining John," said Angie. "It's just fun to have someone else to run for and give purpose."
