Meridian, Miss. The month of March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
Colon cancer affects one out of eighteen people, and is the second deadliest cancer to affect both men and women.
A lecture about the disease will be taking place Mar. 20 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Anderson Hospital auditorium. The lecture will highlight issues like screening for the disease, the risks of getting colon cancer during your lifetime and diets to help prevent the disease.
"It is a major threat to all of us walking out there, and it is very simple to screen for," said gastroenterologist Dr. Barry Calvit.
The lecture has no cost, but only around 15 seats remain. If you would like to attend the lecture, you may call 601-553-6355 to register.
The Anderson auditorium is located on the ground floor of the hospital near the main elevators.
