March is National Nutrition Month and local dietitians gathered on Saturday to help promote healthy eating.
Experts were on hand at the Bonita Wal Mart to encourage shoppers to get their plate into shape. That is the motto for this year's National Nutrition Month. Officials say it is important to stay away from fat, creamy foods and to focus more on eating fresh fruits and vegetables and lean meat.
"There are so many diseases out there that are common to our culture," local dietitian Allison Mason says. "High blood pressure, high sugar diabetes, heart problems."
Mason says eating a low fat diet will help prevent those sorts of issues from developing, therefore leading to a longer life.
