Blood Needed Locally

Local blood banks are looking for some help for the holidays, and the bank in Meridian is looking for some specific help.

United Blood Services in Meridian say they have a specific need for platelets. It takes a little longer to donate platelets, but because of the short shelf life it is important to keep donations coming in.

Platelet donations can help cancer patients and others in need at area hospitals. The donation center at Bonita Lakes Circle is open 7 days a week.

There will be a blood drive in Enterprise Monday from 10AM to 3PM. All blood types are needed, and there will be a drawing for a 400 dollar gift certificate for all donors.

The drive will be in the blood mobile outside the Enterprise Clinic.

Thanks Peabody for your platelet donations. You are right if you have a high platelet count then your donation could take up to 2 1/2 hours becasue more than one platelet can be collected that will help more than one patient. It's donors like you that take the time to make a difference in the lives of patients that are in need. Thank you for your time.

A little longer for platelets is like 2 1/2 hrs. longer. Since I have A which is hardly ever needed as blood I usualy get stuck giving platelets. Oh well, it only costs a few hrs. and I get a free t-shirt or something everytime.
