The Alabama Department of Public Health has opened up Internet portals for physicians to place orders for the swine flu vaccine.

State public health spokesman Jim McVay said doctors are sending in their requests Wednesday for the first 45,000 doses that will be shipped next week, possibly arriving by the end of the week.

McVay said the first vaccine to arrive in the state will be nasal spray, which has been approved for individuals 2 to 49 years of age.

Where the first doses will be shipped will be based on the requests they receive this week.

The second shipment will include 31,000 doses of the injectable vaccine and another 23,000 of the nasal mist.
