Thomas: One Gov't Makes Sense

The subject of metro government for the city and county came up at Monday's meeting of the council of governments. Veteran city council member Dr. George Thomas favors the idea but doubts there is enough support to make it possible.

"I don't think that will ever happen in my lifetime," said Thomas. " We have one school district, one law enforcement system, one everything. It would save a lot of lawyers fees for all of us."

Such a plan would require legislative action, which would almost certainly require a local referendum.
