A crowded field is seeking to replace the late District 4 Supervisor Q. V. Sykes, who died of cancer in July.

Melvin Wright announced his candidacy Monday. Wright is retired after 30 years of work at Anderson Hospital.

This is his first time running for elected office.

"In my job, I helped people and that's what I think I can do in a different capacity," said Wright.

Also running in the Nov. 5 special election are District 4 County Patrolman Ricky Harris, WTOK-TV Chief Photographer Joe Norwood, and retired Police Lt. John Nelson.
