School Bomb Threat

Updated: Fri 6:23 PM, Sep 13, 2002

Meridian Police received a phone call from someone Friday, claiming that a bomb had been placed inside Kate Griffin Junior High School.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., students were evacuated to the football field. The meridian fire departments bomb-sniffing dog made a sweep of the building.

"We're hoping that when we do catch this individual he will spend somewhere in the neighborhood of five years in prison," said Dr. Sam Thompson, director of safety for Meridian Public Schools. "We're hoping for that. Sometimes we have to set examples and I believe this is what needs to happen in this case."

A school Crimestoppers number has led to arrests in the past. Thompson urges those who have information about this crime to report it. The number is 484-4906.
