Annexation Objections

Updated: Fri 6:48 PM, Sep 13, 2002

A group of concerned residents in northeast Lauderdale County has hired an attorney to fight the annexation of their property into Meridian.

The city has petitioned Lauderdale County Chancery Court to annex homes and property in the area between Old Country Club Road and Briarwood Road.

Thursday night, around 300 people showed up at a meeting at Northeast Middle School to voice their concerns. Residents say they just don't see a good reason to be moved into the city.

Several residents in the Eagle Point subdivision are backing the fight against annexation. Donations to fight the annexation poured in Thursday night, according to one of the leaders, Bubba Martin.

The meeting will not be the last on the annexation issue. Organizers say they have a strong chance to stop the annexation before it starts.
