Officials with some local schools are making sure students and parents can share some of their free time together and learn at the same time.

Administration with Meridian Public Schools hosted today the 2nd Annual Family Fun Day. This is a district initiative done through the Parent Resource Center. Staff say they do this every year so that parents are involved in their children's educations.

"Well parental involvement is very important because when we have strong parental involvement within our schools you see that the academic success of our students goes up. And parents are a vital aspect for our schools. Exactly, it was a way to show parents that they can have fun with their children 's education away from the school setting and it can take place in diverse settings. And again we were able to share tools for them to build better relationships with their children," explains Gretchen Luvene, the Coordinator of the Parent Resource Center.

Parents were given family games, guide books, and other tips to help make learning more fun for their kids. The Family Fun Day was held at Meridian's Highland Park.

Staff also let parents know that the Meridian Public School Parent Resource Center has changed locations. It is now located at 3951 12th St., Building 'K', in the Harris Complex.
