Watching and Praying

Updated: Thu 10:39 AM, Sep 12, 2002

As countless other towns in Mississippi and Alabama did Wednesday, DeKalb paused at noon on the courthouse lawn for brief prayers to mark this day and its significance to us all.

"We pray that you will watch over us day by day," prayed Rev. Bennie Pollock, the minister of three churches in Kemper and Neshoba Counties, "because we know not what to do. And there's nothing we can do without you, Lord."

"Jesus taught that only when life is surrendered and love is poured out can we build His Kingdom and reflect the warmth of His Spirit," prayed the Rev. Lanis May of Kemper County.

Speaking later, Mike McGrevey described those who lost their lives in the attacks or died as a result of them, as Wednesday's ''knights in shining armor'', who will be forever remembered.
