Mississippi power companies along with companies across the southeast have been called in to assist Florida to restore power after Hurricane Jeanne.

More than 1.8 million power customers were without electricity Sunday, the state Emergency Operations Center said.

The company said about 1.1 million customers were without power as of noon Sunday, and predicted that number would rise.

Progress Energy Florida, which serves central and northwest Florida, reported 595,000 customers without power at 3 p.m.
