It only takes a drive down Poplar Springs Drive to understand why motorists are unhappy with the state of streets in Meridian. It has been milled for at least a couple of weeks. The surface is extremely bumpy, with sewer drain covers jutting upward.
The city's paving projects have hit a few snags and been slowed by Mother Nature, but public works officials say they will continue the work, and public works director Monty Jackson said concerns that 23rd Avenue has been dropped from the list of streets to be paved are unfounded.
Jackson says progress has simply been slowed down a bit due to the recent visit from Hurricane Ivan. He says city crews were taken off paving projects to assist in cleanup efforts throughout the city.
