Gov. Ronnie Musgrove said Tuesday that a special session is dragging on too long, but he has no power to send legislators home.
The session is in its thirteenth day and legislators still show no signs of agreement on a medical malpractice bill.
House and Senate negotiators met Tuesday afternoon, but about the only thing they agreed on is that they still disagree on several major points.
Conferees appear to be far apart on questions of where lawsuits can be filed and how financial responsibility is divided. They also disagree on setting caps for pain-and-suffering awards. However, Sen. Terry Burton of Newton said Tuesday night he believes a compromise can be reached soon.
Representative Percy Watson of Hattiesburg said he and other negotiators will stay at the Capitol all night, if necessary, to reach a compromise. They worked until almost 11:00 p.m. Monday night.
