Escaped state inmate Cornelius Hughes is back in jail and authorities have issued an arrest warrant for his girlfriend.
Hughes escaped from the custody of the Noxubee County Community Work Center Wednesday while on a work assignment.
Authorities said he was captured Friday in Verona after jumping out of the second story window of an apartment complex and leading police on a lengthy foot chase. He is being held at the Pontotoc Jail awaiting transportation to the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.
Hughes' girlfriend, Frelinda Isbell of Belden, is accused of aiding an escaped felon and faces a 10-year sentence if convicted.
Hughes was serving an eight-year sentence for marijuana possession. He now faces a charge of escape, which carries a five-year sentence.
