Toyota Not Interested in East Miss.

Toyota has been looking at sites in Mississippi and three other states to locate a new plant.

The issue surfaced at the east Mississippi business development corporation board meeting Thursday. BDC President Wade Jones said he was aware early on of a car manufacturer's interest in Mississippi.

"The state indicated to me that the company had requested sites in north Mississippi, north of Highway 82, and north Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas," said Jones. "And that's why the Como site, which is in the north Panola County area, was being considered."

Jones said that Toyota was looking to locate in a larger metropolitan area, as other manufacturers have done-- areas the size of Birmingham, Jackson, and Montgomery.
