A routine traffic stop resulted in a major drug bust Wednesday afternoon in Meridian.
Hardeep Sidhu, 24, of Ontario, Canada, was headed west on Interstate 20 when he was stopped by Meridian police.
Officials said the van was carrying 224 pounds of vacuum-packed marijuana.
"It has a street value of approximately $1 million," said Maj. Steve Spears, commander of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force. "This is pure bud, which is the finest part of the marijuana itself. This individual is going to be charged with possession of a kilo of marijuana with intent to distribute."
Officials said the bust is the largest of its kind in the southeast. No bond has been set at this time.
