Officials with the Mississippi Department of Health have now confirmed at least seven new cases of the virus. The total number of cases in Mississippi is now 151.
Meanwhile in Alabama, the number of confirmed human cases stands at 24.
The mosquito borne virus can be life threatening. It's known to cause flu-like symptoms.
In an effort to avoid contracting the West Nile Virus, health officials are advising people to remove standing water from around their homes and keep gutters clean.
