Mississippi Democratic Party chairman Wayne Dowdy of McComb and Republican Party chairman Jim Herring of Canton spoke Monday at a luncheon in Jackson sponsored by the Capitol Press Corps and Mississippi State University's John C. Stennis Institute of Government.
Herring predicted President Bush will sweep the south and win the national election with up to 53 percent of the vote.
Dowdy said Sen. John Kerry will win the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida and win the national election by “a comfortable margin.”
Both chairmen said they think voter turnout will be boosted by local issues, such as the liquor election in Rankin County and convention center votes in Harrison County and the city of Jackson. The election is Nov. 2.
