The primary was for the Alabama state Senate District 24 seat which was vacated in August when the incumbent Charles Steel resigned to devote more time to his new job as national vice president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Here are the results from Tuesday’s primary:

Demopolis City Councilman Thomas Moore received 41 percent of the votes, while state Representative Bobby Singleton of Greensboro received 40 percent.

State Representative Bryant Melton of Tuscaloosa received 18 percent.

Moore and Singleton will face off in a runoff election on December 14. The winner of the runoff will advance to the General Election January 25 where he will face Republican James Carter of Boligee.
