Armed with the motto that all kids can learn though excellence, Amy Carter, principal of T.J. Harris Upper Elementary, says it hasn't always been easy, but her school continues to head in the right direction.
"We try to focus on making this an environment of positive expectations, no matter where they come from," said Carter.
Carter said the school is in the process of improving its image and says that each year the school has made progress, moving up to Level 3, a successful school, and won't quit till it reaches Level 4.
Two areas of strength for the school, Carter said, are reading and math. The school was part of a reading fair recently.
Another positive thing students are doing during this holiday season is collecting canned goods for those in need.
